Jan was born in a family of the winemakers on the suburb of Nuits-Saint-Georges. He vinified his first wine at the age of 13. From the very start, Jan wanted to be separate and went to practice at other wineries. After working for over 10 years on two of Burgundy’s great biodynamic estates, Domaine Prieure-Roch and Domaine Des Vignes Du Maynes, Jan believed it was time to open his own winery. So, in 2010 Jan Durie and his wife Kristela restored 3 hectares of family vineyards and the Recrue des Sens winery. Here, their daughter Manon was born and today one of Jan’s cuvées carries her name. While creating his estate around the commune of Messanges, Jan also revived several plots north of the Côtes de Nuits and shortly rented several vineyards to meet the growing requirement.
