Meursault
COMMUNE
Meursault is a well-known large village (commune) in the Côte de Beaune region, among almost 400 hectares of vineyards, only 10 hectares are reserved for Pinot Noir. There are no Grand Cru sites but the total level of 19 Premier Crus available is very high. If we turn to the etymology of the origin of the name Meursault in Old French sounded like Murisault or Murassalt and meant "rat's jump": supposedly the forest towering above the commune was called the Rat and "jump" is a deep ravine separating the vineyard.
