Winery Laurent Bart is located in the small town of Benvir, it is about seven kilometers north of Colmar. Grand Cru vineyards in Alsace are located at the foot of the Vosges mountain range. Laurent’s 4.5 hectares are divided into 27 plots. Riesling and Muscat are planted in the Schlossberg Grand Cru vineyard, while Gewürztraminer, Pinot Gr and Pinot Noir are planted in the Markren Grand Cru.

Schlossberg is the first Grand Cru in Alsace, registered back in 1975.
Before Laurent began to involve in winemaking, his family sometimes sold what was grown to a joint which was quite common for these parts: the first cooperative was founded here in 1895.

Laurent took over the management of the estate in 1999 after returning from Beaune where he studied winemaking and practiced in different international projects.

A strong impact on Laurent and his vision of wine from the Pinot Noir grape difference was the experience acquire in the Russian River vineyards. California winemakers at that time constantly trained in Burgundy and gradually switched to organic winemaking. So, by 2004, when Laurent started producing his own wine, he already had enough experience.

The total production today is about 25,000 bottles and this is a line of 10−14 cuvees, the number varies from year to year. Part of the vines were planted by Laurent’s father in the 60s and 70s of the last century .They are a special pride for the winemaker. Planting concentration is strictly controlled in all areas of the farm, yield restrictions are practiced, the main attention is paid to the difference in soils and an individual approach to the cultivation of a particular area. On some parcels, totally all the work is only manual labor.

Pinot Gris Grand Cru Macrane — produced from a site with eastern and southeastern exposure on marl and limestone soils. Fermentation in oak is longer than usual and continues until 1−3 grams of residual sugar remains. Bottling is carried out 16−22 months after the harvest.

Gewürztraminer from the same vineyard is a semi-dry wine that perfectly balances delicate aromas of exotic fruits and a rather spicy peppery body. The wine has good acidity and minerality.

Pinot Noir harvest from the Macrane vineyard is usually split in half. Some are fermented without destemming, and some are whole bunches. Spontaneous fermentation takes place in steel tanks, maceration lasts about three weeks, and aging in oak for 12−15 months. The wines are not filtered before hand bottling.
