Domaine Bernard Gripa
BRAND OWNER
Winery Bernard Gripa. It is located in the small village of Mauves on the west bank of the majestic Rhone, bordering the more famous Vienne in the north and Valence in the south. In the direct vicinity are mountains, the steep swills of which have been turned into terraced vineyards.

A lot of generations of the Gripa family have been involved in winemaking and understanding winemaking practices and traditions is the key to understanding what is happening in the vineyards and cellars nowadays. The main viticulturist and winemaker is Fabrice Gripa, the son of Bernard, who regularly turns to his father for the piece of advice.

The farm team uses organic techniques. They work in the existing conditions is possible only by hands.

Gripa’s domain is 16 hectares of vineyards, 50/50 white and red varieties. Among the plots is 3.5 hectares belonging to the rare and unique Saint-Peray appellation, where, next to the red varieties, only white varieties are planted — Marsanne and Roussanne for two magnificent white cuvées of the farm.

The remaining areas belong to the Saint Joseph appellation, where several different cuvees are produced, each brilliantly reflecting different terroirs in its own way.

The soils of Saint-Joseph are predominantly granite, while those of Saint-Péret are clay and limestone. The age of the vines in some areas is 65−80 years. The white and red cuvee Saint-Joseph Berceau are produced from the oldest vines and the best plots.

All cuvees of Gripa. Four from one appellation and two from another, aged in French barrels of various sizes. 15 years or more is considered good aging potential.
